About Gunnar
Gunnar Gillentine enters his senior season as one of the most fundamentally sound punters in the 2027 recruiting class after verbally committing to Bowling Green. The Mississippi native has built his reputation through technical precision rather than simply relying on raw leg strength. Every aspect of his operation is polished, allowing him to consistently produce quality punts while demonstrating a level of consistency that’s uncommon for a high school specialist. With his recruitment behind him, Gillentine now has the opportunity to finish his high school career with another outstanding season before bringing his talent to Bowling Green
KT Evaluation
Evaluated Aug 1, 2026Gunnar Gillentine is one of the most technically refined punters in the country. His operation is remarkably efficient from start to finish. His footwork is exceptional, allowing him to stay balanced and on time throughout every rep. The ball comes cleanly out of his hands, his drop is extremely consistent, and his swing path is one of the purest you’ll find in the 2027 class. Every movement has purpose, resulting in a repeatable operation that produces consistent results. Gillentine is much more than just a “distance” punter. He understands how to manipulate the football and has the ability to execute multiple styles of punts depending on the situation. Whether it’s driving his biggest ball, pinning opponents deep with directional punts, or controlling field position, he demonstrates an advanced understanding of the position. His directional punting ability is especially impressive. He consistently places the football where he wants it while maintaining quality hang time and distance, giving his coverage team every opportunity to make plays. The physical tools are already in place, and because his technical foundation is so advanced, there’s tremendous room for continued growth as he adds strength and develops at the collegiate level. ⸻ KT Recruiting Evaluation Gunnar Gillentine is proof that great punting isn’t always about kicking the furthest ball—it’s about mastering the position. His footwork, ball drop, and overall operation are among the cleanest in the 2027 class, giving him a foundation that should translate exceptionally well to college football. Specialists with this level of technical consistency tend to develop quickly because the difficult part of the position has already become second nature. We believe Bowling Green landed one of the most polished punters in the country. As Gillentine continues adding strength and refining his game, he has every physical and technical tool necessary to develop into one of the top collegiate punters in the Group of Five and a player capable of competing at an even higher level. His best football is still ahead of him, and his ceiling remains extremely high.
